As a member of the positive psychology movement, few experiences are more gratifying than witnessing an initiative such as the European Journal of Psychology and Educational Studies (EJPES) come into existence. I find it to be as rare as it is necessary because it, for once, does not discriminate between traditional and positive psychology, makes use of a modern medium for transferring its knowledge, and does so in accordance with the open source philosophy of the web. In other words, it is future-proof.
Our purpose as (positive) psychologists should neither be to contrast and compare the different schools of psychology, nor should it be to strive for a holistic approach towards them. Our collective purpose is to find out how we can increase the quality of life of mankind, whether by curing mental diseases or by guiding people on their journey from 'average to A +'; according to universal rigorous methodological standards.
Because, in the end, even the greatest scientific discoveries are worthless if they do not lead to behavioral change; the emphasis on science-based interventions that can be applied in real-life settings can hardly ever be too high. Education lends itself as the ideal vessel for the application of such interventions, which is why I applaud my colleagues in this effort to integrate science and education, the positive and the negative, and online with the offline world. I feel honored to be a part of this.
FNx01Seph focuses on creating a one stop positive psychology resource that researchers, teachers, practitioners, and students from all over the world can use and get better equipped with the knowledge that the field of positive psychology has to offer.
